South Shore YMCA is seeking an Assistant Swim Coach to execute the Strypers swim program under the supervision of the Coach-Swim Team. Responsibilities include coaching swimmers of all ages, attending practices and meets, and resolving swimmer/parent concerns with the Directors of Competitive Swimming.

The role emphasizes teamwork with YMCA staff, professional communication, and dedication to safety and program quality across branches and locations.

Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Redwoods Child Abuse Prevention.
  • USA Swimming Level I and Level II certifications.
  • Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving (within first year of employment).
  • Certifications/experience in swim-specific strength and conditioning beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Execute an integrated swimming program for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
  • Attend all scheduled practices and regular swim meets.
  • Address swimmer/parent issues with the Directors of Competitive Swimming.
  • Maintain a clean pool environment and report equipment faults.
  • Support volunteers and participate in staff meetings and trainings.

Job description

Assistant Swim Coach, under the supervision of the Coach-Swim Team, has the prime responsibility of executing all coaching duties for the South Shore YMCA Strypers swim team at YMCA branches and/or additional practice locations.

Core Expectations
PROGRAM EXECUTION
  • Execute an integrated swimming program that meets the needs of swimmers of all ages and abilities.
  • Attend all scheduled practices.
  • Attendance and coaching responsibilities at regular swim meets.
  • Address and resolve swimmer/parent issues with the Directors of Competitive Swimming at all times.
STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND TEAMWORK
  • Work with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect.
  • Communicate with the Directors of Competitive Swimming in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform other duties needed as delegated by Directors of Competitive Swimming.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete skill trainings.
MEMBER ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
  • Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.
  • Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies or direct people to Directors of Competitive Swimming and/or Aquatic Directors.
  • Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT
  • Maintain a clean and organized pool environment.
  • Record and report any faulty equipment and/or lapse in maintenance to the aquatic supervisors on duty.
  • Ensure all swim team equipment is neatly stored and/or maintained before, during and after practices.
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
  • Support volunteers and their daily functions.
