Position Overview:
The Associate Head Coach / Assistant Coach will play a pivotal role in the continued growth and success of the HYDRA Swim Team. This individual will collaborate closely with the Head Coach to develop and implement training programs, mentor assistant coaches, and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the team. The ideal candidate is passionate about competitive swimming, possesses strong leadership skills, and is committed to creating a positive and inclusive team culture.
This position may be hired as either an Associate Head Coach or an Assistant Coach, depending on the qualifications, experience, and availability of the candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing and executing comprehensive training plans for various swim groups, ensuring alignment with USA Swimming standards and the team's philosophy.
- Lead specific training groups, focusing on technical proficiency, race strategies, and athlete development.
- Provide guidance and support to assistant coaches to maintain consistency across all levels.
- Attend and coach at all assigned swim meets, including local, regional, and national competitions.
- Oversee meet preparations, entries, and post-meet evaluations.
- Utilize TeamUnify, Commit Swimming, and Hy-Tek software for team management, meet entries, practice planning, and performance tracking.
- Engage in regular communication with swimmers, parents, and staff.
- Contribute to the team's social media presence and promotional activities.
- Participate in team events, fundraising efforts, and community outreach programs to enhance the team's visibility and foster a sense of community.
Qualifications:
- Current USA Swimming Coach Membership in good standing, including required certifications (CPR, First Aid, Athlete Protection Training, Background Check, etc.).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of coaching experience with a USA Swimming club or equivalent, with demonstrated success in developing swimmers at various levels.
- Proficiency in TeamUnify, Hy-Tek Meet Manager, Commit Swimming, and other relevant team management and coaching software.
- Strong knowledge of stroke techniques, training methodologies, and athlete progression.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
- Dedication to fostering a supportive and competitive swimming environment that aligns with the team's mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coaching swimmers at the sectional, futures, or national level.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., kinesiology, education, sports management).
- Familiarity with the New England Swimming LSC and regional competitive landscape.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with female athletes, including supporting their development, confidence, and long-term engagement in competitive swimming.
