Job description

This full-time position serves in the dual capacity of Assistant Swim Coach and Assistant Director of Aquatics. The role involves both coaching responsibilities for the men’s and women’s swim teams and operational oversight of the Kline Center pool. As Assistant Swim Coach, the incumbent will be responsible for aiding the Head Coach in all aspects of a Dickinson athletic program, including but not limited to the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, administration of practices, marketing and implementation of clinics, leadership development and game strategy. The ideal candidate will excel in both athlete development and aquatic facility management.

Essential Functions:

Management and mentoring of the current team by cultivating a culture of accountability and team mentality within our student-athletes and by reinforcing the Head Coach’s expectations of priorities and standards of behavior within our student-athletes.

Recruitment of talented student-athletes to Dickinson by traveling to various sites, getting to know the prospective student-athletes and their families through phone conversations and on campus meetings, and by communicating the values of the College and the athletic program clearly and effectively.

Assisting the head coach in coordinating daily team practices. Teaching athletic skills and team concepts as well as implementing skills and strategy in competitive situations. Coach in-water and out-of-water practices, including weight room and dryland training; help create season-long training plans for individual swimmers; assist in developing in-water practices for various training groups; support the creation and implementation of the strength training program; collaborate on weekly meet lineups and competition strategy; help coordinate team travel arrangements and meals.

Assist in managing team social media accounts and communications. Assist the staff in the release of all marketing information related to athletic program to all alumni and recruits through email, text, social media, etc.

Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress. Work individually with student-athletes to review and assess overall performance

Aquatic Facility Management: Ensure proper maintenance and use of the Kline Center pool, keeping it in good repair, clean, and sanitary; work with physical plant staff to monitor mechanical systems responsible for water quality; perform daily testing of pool water to ensure compliance with health and safety standards; maintain accurate logs of chemical levels, ensuring they remain within acceptable safety standards; perform daily testing of pool water to ensure compliance with health and safety standards; maintain accurate logs of chemical levels, ensuring they remain within acceptable safety standards; coordinate with vendors for supply deliveries, chemical level monitoring, and scheduling weekly water testing; add chemicals to systems as needed to maintain optimal water quality; and communicate promptly with the Head Swim Coach/Director of Aquatics regarding any pool water quality issues.

Bachelor’s degree
