GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to work out of our Southpointe, PA office. The ideal candidate will learn survey terminology and references, equipment calibration techniques, conduct measurements required for technical survey work, and learn to set up tripods and other basic equipment. Experience is not required, we will train the right individual.
Job Duties
- Apply theory and principles of surveying to modify, test, and operate survey equipment.
- Work both in office environments and in the field.
- Handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Produce tabulating data and field notes and sketches.
- Possess strong organizational skills.
- Follow all safety policies, requirements, and wear proper PPE.
- Travel up to 75% of the time, up to 3 weeks per month.
- Learn survey nomenclature, set up tripods, use and care of delicate equipment, calibrate equipment, and perform measurements required for survey technical work.
- Occasionally work at heights and wade through water; ride in a boat and swim (preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Endure inclement weather (extreme heat, cold, etc.).
- Wade through water, ride in a boat, swimming skills preferred.
- Exposed to heights and moderate to difficult terrains; use hand tools safely.
- Withstand a physically demanding job, carrying 25–50 lbs routinely.
- Walk for lengthy periods of time.
- Wear a shirt, long pants, and boots at all times on job sites.
- Have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
General Characteristics
- Acquire basic skills; good visual and hearing skills; follow procedures.
- Work in extreme heat, cold, etc.; safety-minded.
- Flexible work hours and willing to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasionally weekends.
- Ability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs routinely and walk for lengthy periods.
