Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to work out of our Southpointe, PA office. The ideal candidate will learn survey terminology and references, equipment calibration techniques, conduct measurements required for technical survey work, and learn to set up tripods and other basic equipment. Experience is not required, we will train the right individual.

Job Duties
  • Apply theory and principles of surveying to modify, test, and operate survey equipment.
  • Work both in office environments and in the field.
  • Handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher‑level staff.
  • Produce tabulating data, and prepare field notes and sketches.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Follow all safety policies, requirements, and wear proper PPE.
  • Travel will be up to 75% – up to 3 weeks out of the month.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to endure inclement weather (extreme heat, cold, etc.).
  • Must be able to wade through water; ability to ride in a boat and swimming skills are preferred.
  • Must be able to be exposed to heights and moderate to difficult terrain; ability to safely use hand tools.
  • Must be able to withstand a physically demanding job, carrying 25–50 lbs. routinely.
  • Must be able to walk for lengthy periods of time.
  • Must wear a shirt, long pants, and boots at all times on job sites.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for insurability purposes.
General Characteristics
  • Continues to acquire basic skills; good visual and hearing skills; follows procedures; good organizational skills.
  • Works in weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.).
  • Works with safety in mind, flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasional weekend travel.
  • Can lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; walk for lengthy periods; wear shirt, long pants, and boots as a minimum on the job.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Capable of learning survey nomenclature, setting up tripods, using basic equipment, caring for delicate equipment, learning equipment calibration, maintaining a steady hand for proper measurements.
  • Occasional work at heights, wade through water, ride in a boat; swimming skills preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and operate in physically demanding, inclement weather conditions.
