Argyle Country Club in Silver Spring, MD is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join the Greens & Grounds team, partnering with the Director and Equipment Manager to maintain Poa/bentgrass greens and Bermuda tees.

The role emphasizes hands-on maintenance, leading small crews, responsible daily tasks, budgeting support, and coordinating irrigation, fertility, and safety, with growth opportunities within a historic club.

Qualifications

• Certificate or formal education in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant golf course maintenance experience is preferred, but no minimum number of years is required.
• Maryland Pesticide & Fertilizer Applicator Licenses preferred, or ability to obtain required licensing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily golf course maintenance and preparation of the course for play.
• Participate in pesticide and fertilizer applications, water management, and irrigation repair.
• Operate and maintain golf course equipment and assist with equipment-related tasks as needed.
• Lead and motivate hourly employees and small crews to complete daily assignments efficiently.
• Assist with clubhouse grounds maintenance and property-wide landscape responsibilities.
• Support budgeting, purchasing, inventory, and project management responsibilities.
• Assist with ongoing golf course improvements and future capital and maintenance projects.
• Help maintain playing conditions across Poa/bentgrass greens, bermudagrass tees and fairways, and cool-season rough.
• Work collaboratively with the Director and management team while exercising sound judgment and initiative.
