About The Role

The Assistant Housekeeping Superintendent supports the Housekeeping Superintendent in overseeing day-to-day housekeeping and custodial operations at Subaru Park and other assigned Philadelphia Union facilities. This position helps ensure that the stadium and surrounding facilities consistently meet organizational standards for cleanliness, safety, presentation, and guest experience during daily operations, Philadelphia Union matches, special events, and private functions.

This is a supervisory position with direct shift-level responsibility for part-time, seasonal, temporary, and event-day housekeeping employees. Using independent judgment within established organizational policies and the operating plan established by the Housekeeping Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent determines shift deployment, assigns and responsibly directs work, adjusts personnel and priorities as conditions change, evaluates performance, addresses conduct and attendance concerns, and makes recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, discipline, suspension, and termination that are given meaningful consideration by management.

The Assistant Superintendent is accountable for the safety, conduct, productivity, work quality, and performance of employees assigned to the shift. Although the Assistant Superintendent may provide hands-on assistance when operationally necessary, the role remains responsible for exercising supervisory authority and directing assigned employees rather than functioning solely as a lead worker.

Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise part-time, seasonal, temporary, and event-day housekeeping employees and remain accountable for their safety, conduct, productivity, work quality, and performance.
  • Use independent judgment to determine staffing requirements, establish shift priorities, assign employees to work areas and responsibilities, and responsibly direct the manner and sequence in which work is completed.
  • Reallocate employees, modify assignments, approve routine shift adjustments, and deploy additional resources in response to attendance, workload, event activity, facility conditions, and emerging operational needs without seeking routine approval.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings; communicate assignments, service standards, event information, safety requirements, and performance expectations; and confirm employee understanding.
  • Monitor attendance, conduct, productivity, and work quality; provide coaching and documented feedback; and require timely correction of deficiencies.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide substantive input and recommendations regarding hiring, retention, promotion, assignment, recognition, compensation, and continued employment.
  • Address routine employee complaints, scheduling disputes, work-assignment concerns, and interpersonal issues; resolve matters within assigned authority and elevate significant concerns to People & Culture or department leadership.
  • Train and develop supervisors, leads, and housekeeping employees on cleaning procedures, equipment operation, chemical handling, safety protocols, guest service, and departmental expectations.
  • Manage daily housekeeping and custodial operations throughout Subaru Park and other assigned facilities, ensuring spaces are consistently clean, safe, sanitary, presentable, and event-ready.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and presentation of restrooms, concourses, suites and premium areas, offices, locker rooms, event spaces, stairwells, elevators, loading areas, storage areas, exterior entrances, and other assigned spaces.
  • Develop and execute operational plans for routine cleaning, special projects, event preparation, event-time coverage, post-event cleanup, and facility changeovers.
  • Conduct facility walk-throughs and inspections; identify deficiencies; assign corrective work; verify completion; and document recurring or significant issues.
  • Exercise authority to adjust work methods, staffing, sequencing, and resource allocation to meet cleanliness, safety, and event-readiness standards.
  • Oversee waste removal and recycling operations and support organizational sustainability initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Stadium Operations, Engineering, Security, Guest Services, and other departments to resolve facility, event, and service issues.
  • Lead employee check-in, assignment, deployment, and accountability processes for matches, special events, and post-event operations.
  • Monitor staffing levels and labor utilization throughout shifts and events; authorize reassignment, schedule changes, early releases, or extensions consistent with operational needs and Company policy.
  • Determine and communicate housekeeping priorities before, during, and following events, and respond to emerging conditions by redirecting employees and resources.
  • Coordinate post-event cleaning operations to restore the facility efficiently and prepare it for the next scheduled activity.
  • Serve as the on-duty housekeeping supervisor during assigned shifts, matches, and events and make timely operational decisions within the position's authority.
  • Establish, communicate, and enforce consistent cleanliness, sanitation, presentation, and service standards.
  • Ensure employees follow OSHA requirements, Safety Data Sheets, manufacturer instructions, Company safety procedures, and established work practices.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and authorized to operate commercial housekeeping equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, wet vacuums, carpet extractors, and related equipment.
  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, handled, diluted, and used; immediately address unsafe practices or conditions.
  • Investigate and document workplace incidents, employee injuries, equipment damage, safety violations, and service failures, and implement corrective measures within assigned authority.
  • Inspect equipment and coordinate preventive maintenance, repair, replacement, or removal from service as necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, equipment, uniforms, and departmental materials, and control unnecessary waste and expense.
  • Maintain accurate schedules, timekeeping and attendance records, performance documentation, inspection reports, training records, safety documentation, equipment records, and supply inventories.
  • Review payroll and timekeeping information for accuracy and address discrepancies within established procedures.
  • Monitor vendor and contractor performance, direct corrective action when services do not meet expectations, and communicate significant concerns to department leadership.
  • Prepare reports regarding staffing, labor utilization, facility conditions, supply needs, safety, and departmental performance.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in facilities management, hospitality, operations, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of housekeeping, custodial, environmental services, facilities, hospitality, or related operations experience, preferably in a stadium, arena, convention center, hotel, entertainment venue, or other large commercial facility.
  • Previous supervisory experience with demonstrated authority for scheduling, assigning and directing work, training, evaluating performance, addressing employee concerns, and recommending employment actions required.
  • Experience supervising a combination of part-time, seasonal, temporary, and event-based employees strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, equipment, chemicals, and industry best practices.
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety standards, OSHA requirements, SDS procedures, and safe chemical handling.
  • Strong leadership, judgment, communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make timely decisions, manage competing priorities, and hold employees accountable in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.
  • Experience in professional sports or a large-scale sports and entertainment venue strongly preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE

This position requires a flexible schedule based on the Philadelphia Union match and event calendar, including days, evenings, overnight hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts. Regular attendance at Philadelphia Union home matches and other major events at Subaru Park is an essential function of the position.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods throughout the stadium and surrounding property and regularly navigate stairs and varied facility areas.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, and perform physical activities associated with inspecting and supporting housekeeping operations.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
