Job summary

Skanska USA Building is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support on-site field operations, ensure safety and schedule adherence, and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors. Job Summary

The Assistant Superintendent at Skanska supports on-site field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and profitably. Reporting to the Superintendent, the role requires regular on-site presence to supervise the labor force, enforce Skanska’s Safety and Health Management Program, conduct quality inspections, and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors. The position emphasizes leadership, organization, time management, and client-facing communication.

Core responsibilities include day-to-day supervision of field crews, inspecting subcontractor work for contract compliance, developing and maintaining site logistics and short-term schedules, monitoring labor and material costs, preparing superintendent daily reports, and participating in project meetings. The Assistant Superintendent also reviews trade contractor payment applications with leadership, tracks change orders and tickets, and mentors team members to support an injury-free environment.

Required experience includes at least three years in construction and safety/QC administration. Preferred qualifications include assisting with subcontractor oversight, scheduling, site logistics, CO tracking, and working with plans and specs, Procore certification, CMIT, familiarity with electrical construction practices, and working knowledge of tools like Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, BIM 360, Prolog, Primavera P6, and JD Edwards. Competencies focus on logistics, quality management, safety enforcement, and subcontractor oversight.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates.
• Prepare and submit Superintendent’s Daily Reports.
• Attend and participate in project meetings, including subcontractor meetings.
• Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of Skanska’s Self-Perform programs if applicable
• As an Assistant Superintendent on an active construction site, this position requires regular and consistent on-site attendance to monitor and observe construction operations and participate in scheduled and ad hoc production, safety, and supervisory meetings.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of proven construction experience.
• 3+ years’ experience administering safety and QC policies with the ability to learn the Skanska Safety and QAQC Culture.
• 1+ year working with schedule milestones and look-ahead schedules.
• 1+ year assisting with job site logistics and management.
• 1+ year tracking COs and tickets.
• 1+ year working with plans and specs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred Procore Construction Management certification.
• Preferred experience with broad job knowledge of technical or operational practices within electrical construction.
• Preferred CMIT certificate.
• Working knowledge of design and drawing software to including, but not limited to, Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, NAVIA, and Bluebeam.
• Working knowledge of Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC).
• Experience with JD Edwards for timekeeping, project costs, and other project financials.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience utilizing email, phone, and Microsoft Office platforms.
• Understands basic management approaches such as work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching, and process execution.

Competencies / Skills

Has a basic understanding of:

• Logistics: Develops, approves, and communicates construction logistics plans, verifying they are in place and clearly understood. Ensures that projects are proceeding according to these plans.
• Quality Management - Field Management Building: Develops project-specific quality control plan, following Skanska quality control processes and ensuring overall quality of the project. Monitors work practices to identify concerns or issues that do not meet these quality standards. Follows contract provisions for necessary corrective action.
• Safety: Ensures the safe execution of all work activities and ensures adherence to our safety regulations to protect all individuals. Verifies and coordinates work activities to comply with the Skanska EHS program and corrects unsafe activities, actions, and conditions.
• Subcontractor Certifications: Ensures that subcontractors have necessary insurance and contract requirements in place prior to beginning work.
• Subcontractor Oversight: Monitors, inspects, and ensures subcontractors are performing the work safely, are adhering to the schedule, and are producing quality work in line with subcontractor agreements and our client contract obligations.

Work Environment/Conditions

This job is performed both in the office and in the field on an active construction site. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment and systems, which include average to loud noises, the ability to traverse uneven grounds, and possible outdoor weather conditions. Vision requires the capacity for close and far vision, the ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
