Job summary

Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, CA is seeking a Full-Time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join Troon-managed operations. You will lead a 25+ person maintenance team, contribute to agronomic planning, and support tournament readiness while pursuing progression toward a Golf Course Superintendent title.

Expect a rotating weekend schedule with 50–60 hours in summer and about 40 hours otherwise, with mentorship and growth opportunities within a major hospitality-focused property

Qualifications

• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field.
• Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.
• Experience in golf course maintenance leadership preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of daily planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance ops for 25+ team members.
• Assist with irrigation management, fertilization, pesticides, cultural practices, tournament prep, and course setup.
• Develop and implement short- and long-term agronomic plans with the Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent.
• Participate in Green Committee meetings and budgeting discussions.
• Attend local and national educational opportunities and industry events.
• Receive mentorship and increasing responsibility toward becoming a Golf Course Superintendent.

Responsibilities & Professional Development

As Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you'll be entrusted with meaningful responsibility. Working alongside the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent, you'll play a key role in leading the operation while gaining the experience needed to become a future Golf Course Superintendent.

Responsibilities and development opportunities include:

• Take ownership of the daily planning, scheduling, and execution of golf course maintenance operations while leading, mentoring, and developing 25+ team members in a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Assist with irrigation management, fertilizer and pesticide applications, cultural practices, tournament preparation, and course setup.
• Work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent to develop and implement short- and long-term agronomic plans.
• Participate in Green Committee meetings
• Gain exposure to budgeting, capital planning, and strategic decision-making.
• Take ownership of projects and contribute ideas that improve course conditions and departmental operations.
• Attend local and national educational opportunities, conferences, and industry events.
• Receive mentorship and increasing responsibility designed to prepare you for the next step in your career.

This is a leadership position within a year-round golf course operation, and the schedule reflects the seasonal demands of the profession.

• Summer months typically require 50–60 hours per week.
• During the remainder of the year, schedules generally average around 40 hours per week.
• Flexibility is expected during tournaments, special events, weather events, and periods of agronomic necessity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
• Experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Second Assistant Superintendent, Spray Technician, Foreman, or another golf course maintenance leadership role ready to take the next step.
• California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC), or the ability to obtain either within six months of hire.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Passion for developing people and producing exceptional playing conditions.
