Job summary

Marin Country Club in Novato, CA is seeking a full-time Assistant Superintendent to join our turf team and contribute to safe, high-quality golf course operations under our Director of Agronomy and Superintendent.

You will help manage budgets, schedules, irrigation, chemical applications, and staff training while upholding club standards. Two to three years’ maintenance experience and a California QAC/license are preferred.

  • Develops and maintains training programs for each task on the golf course.
  • Evaluates team members' performance for annual reviews and daily feedback.

Job description

Marin Country Club, located in Novato, CA is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a full-time Assistant Superintendent! We are seeking a motivated individual who is interested in contributing to a positive experience for our members and guests while continuing to grow their knowledge of golf club operations. As an associate of Troon, you will contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.

Located just 30 minutes north of San Francisco, a trip to the city is a breeze. The club is also 30 minutes south of California's beautiful wine country and only 30 minutes from pristine Northern California beaches. There is truly no shortage of good times to be had when at work.

Marin Country Club is currently undergoing work to prepare a Masterplan, helping to guide and shape all construction projects on the golf course. This process will hopefully culminate with a course restoration taking place in 2030. The club has recently upgraded to a state-of-the-art maintenance building and is waiting for permits to complete the building of an additional state-of-the-art dry storage facility with a fully operational wood shop. While all these projects are underway, Marin Country Club is also working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to repair, stabilize, and maintain the Arroyo San Jose, which meanders through the property providing beauty to the golf course and a good portion of our irrigation water.

Compensation

$75,000.00 - $85,000.00

Key Responsibilities
  • Works with the Director of Agronomy and Superintendent to create yearly budgets, agronomic calendars, and project schedules.
  • Works with the Superintendent to create daily and weekly schedules for the maintenance team.
  • Oversees daily maintenance of the property and ensures tasks are completed safely and to club standards.
  • Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training new team members.
  • Oversees orientation and training of new team members.
  • Develops and maintains training programs for each task on the golf course.
  • Evaluates team members' individual performance for annual performance reviews and daily feedback.
  • Addresses complaints and problems among team members in a professional manner that promotes honesty and teamwork.
  • Works with other managers and irrigation technicians to maintain the property's irrigation system.
  • Manages water throughout the property using a deep and infrequent practice to simultaneously promote playability and turf health.
  • Performs routine safety training with the team and conducts safety inspections of equipment and work areas.
  • Reads, understands, and maintains current material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product labels.
  • Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Maintains a log of applications and files related reports.
  • Oversees and facilitates chemical and fertilizer applications.
  • Ensures proper calibration of all spraying and fertilizing equipment.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Knowledge/Skill
  • Must have knowledge and experience in spraying and fertilizing equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product labels is essential.
  • Understanding of governmental regulations for chemical storage and mixing.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and irrigation programming.
Education and Experience
  • Certificate, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in horticulture or turf management preferred.
  • Two to three years of golf course maintenance experience required.
  • Prior managerial experience preferred.
Certificates/Licenses
  • Must possess or obtain within 90 days a California Qualified Applicator's License or Qualified Applicator's Certificate.
