Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Wallingford, CT is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to assist a licensed professional engineer in delivering design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV). You will help develop design packages, perform electrical studies and calculations, support field inspections, and prepare estimates and specifications as part of a project team.

Required: a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; ABET accreditation preferred; internship or related experience;

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required.
ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Internship/related consulting experience preferred.
Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
Campus/community involvement preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Assist in the design of substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
Prepare and develop substation design packages including equipment layouts, protection and control, and lighting.
Develop substation calculations (insulation, DC systems, voltage drop, cable sizing).
Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and specifications.
Apply IEEE, NESC, and other standards and procedures.
Assist with field inspections for substation facilities.
Research and compile project data for managers.
Support client presentations, reports, and visualizations.
