Description

The Assistant Structure Representative assists the Structure Representative and Resident Engineer, working as a field engineer/inspector to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with contract documents on highway construction projects, including bridges, walls, barriers, drainage, and sign structures.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction and engineering inspections to ensure materials and workmanship meet approved plans and specifications.
• Provide timely updates to clients, supervisors, and the Structure Representative.
• Document observations through daily diaries and photos.
• Perform calculations related to alignment, grade, quantities, and materials.
• Assist with monthly progress pay estimates and develop contract quantity estimate documents.
• Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings for compliance.
• Guide less-experienced field staff and collaborate with project team members.
• Maintain project records, including reports, submittals, and expenditures.
• Assist in preparing final project closeout documents and resolving claims.
• Communicate with contractors regarding compliance, quality, safety, and regulations.
• Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two-year degree in pre-engineering.

• Excellent communication skills.
• Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to safety and ability to work in outdoor construction environments.
• Physical ability to perform activities like walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Valid California Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in civil engineering or Engineer-in-Training certification.
• Registered Professional Engineer in California.
• Experience with Caltrans specifications.
• First Aid certification.
