Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Norfolk, VA, is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support licensed engineers on a variety of projects across power, process, healthcare, and institutional facilities. You will participate in design and construction, adapting plans to budget and client needs.

Responsibilities include assisting with structural design from concept to design completion, reviewing drawings, performing field measurements, and helping prepare client presentations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work analytically in problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the structural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental facilities.
• Assists in designing structural components for project needs and requirements as directed by project managers.
• Applies basic knowledge of structural engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
• Assists with research and compiles project data as required by project managers.
• Assists with updating drawings to verify corrections across CAD software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for various facilities.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
