Job summary

Pet Supplies Plus is seeking an Assistant Store Team Leader in Newport, KY to support the Store Team Leader in daily operations and lead a team dedicated to excellent neighborly service for pets and their families.

You will play a key role in team development, customer experience, and community engagement while ensuring a clean, safe, and well-run store environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail or customer-facing leadership experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred (High School Diploma/GED required).
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools.
• Ability to lift up to 65 lbs and perform physical tasks (climbing, bending, kneeling).
• Ability to operate store equipment as needed.
• Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible schedules.
• Must be 18+ years old and able to meet hiring requirements set by the local franchise owner.

Responsibilities

• Support and lead your team by example, delivering exceptional, neighborly service
• Jump in to greet neighbors and their pets and create a welcoming in-store experience
• Assist customers in choosing the best products for their pets’ needs
• Support store performance including sales, engagement, and overall productivity
• Help analyze results and partner with leadership on plans to improve performance
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and developing a strong team
• Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and support to team members
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-run store environment (including animal care and safety)
• Build relationships within the community and support local events and partnerships
• Help create a fun, positive culture where both pets and people feel at home
