Job summary

Dollar Tree is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in Downers Grove, IL to support store operations, drive customer service excellence, and develop the team. You will assist with daily activities, organize merchandise, manage opening/closing procedures, and maintain clean, organized spaces in a fast-paced retail environment.

The role emphasizes strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead a small team while ensuring safety and adherence to company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs. and tolerate frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills are required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Help organize, and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor as needed and ensure seasonal areas are maintained.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process all corporate directives related to store activities.
• Maintain promotional displays and fixtures.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping (including payroll, scheduling, and cash deposits), and loss prevention.
• Maintain a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to policies and safety guidelines; ensure staff follow procedures.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment for customers and associates.
• Maintain cleanliness throughout the store including restrooms, floors, and trash removal.
• Other duties as assigned*.
