Position Purpose

Assistant Store Managers (ASMs) report to the Store Manager and are responsible for managing store associates, sales, customer service, safety standards, product availability, store appearance, and profitability of a retail store. Each ASM has direct responsibility for a specific area of the store: Operations, Night Operations, Merchandising, or Specialty Operations. ASMs collaborate with associates to ensure they have the knowledge to help customers, perform processes, and meet general expectations. They exercise judgment and discretion alone, and with the Store Manager and other leaders, in daily store operations. ASMs ensure a safe working environment by following safety policies, completing safety training, and correcting hazards promptly. Operations Assistant Managers (OAMs) oversee Customer Service Desk, Pro Operations, Receiving, Tool Rental, Order Fulfillment, Lot Loaders, and Back Office, with additional management of freight in 'Day Freight' stores. They partner with the Store Manager and other ASMs to develop strategies to drive sales and profitability, manage department operations, coach associates, and ensure operational efficiency. OAMs focus on expense management, shrink mitigation, and leading by example in sales, service, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Service / Experience (25%): Drive customer service and associate engagement; coach on service techniques; lead a culture of excellence; recognize and address customer concerns; ensure proper order fulfillment.
2. People (25%): Assist in recruitment; evaluate performance; manage associate engagement; facilitate training and development; ensure compliance with policies.
3. Safety (10%): Enforce safety policies; complete safety training; correct unsafe conditions; manage claims processes.
4. Sales & Productivity (20%): Collaborate on financial decisions; assess sales opportunities; develop improvement plans; manage store operations to meet metrics.
5. Shared Manager on Duty (10%): Perform opening/closing duties; lead store readiness; handle escalations; monitor staffing and attendance.
6. Store Appearance (10%): Maintain cleanliness and organization; ensure equipment and merchandising standards.
