TrailersPlus in Wayland, MI is hiring an Assistant Store Manager (Sales Lead) to drive daily sales and lead the team. The role reports to the Store Manager and focuses on closing high-ticket trailer sales, upselling services, and delivering an outstanding customer experience.

The ASM will mentor staff, manage local storefront operations, and work 40 hours per week with overtime opportunities. Compensation includes $21–$22/hour DOE plus uncapped commissions and bonuses.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of successful retail sales or sales leadership experience.
• Ability to close high-value deals and meet targets.
• Comfort learning basic service tasks and towing hookups.
• Proficiency with sales tools, online inventory systems, and retail math.
• Physically capable of lifting 50-75 lbs and obtaining required licenses.
• Spanish language ability is a strong plus.

About The Role

TrailersPlus is seeking a high-energy Assistant Store Manager (ASM) with a aggressive drive for sales success to power our store revenue and help lead daily operations. In this role, sales performance is your primary impact area. You will actively prospect local leads, guide buyers through high-ticket inventory, upsell premium parts and services, and mentor the team on proven closing strategies. As the right hand to the Store Manager, you'll turn every lot visitor into a lifetime customer while keeping store execution running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

• Sales Leadership & Revenue Growth: Drive store profitability by actively selling trailers, accessories, and service packages. Generate local business leads, maximize cross-selling opportunities, and lead by example on the sales floor to exceed monthly revenue targets.
• Sales Coaching & Team Development: Train, mentor, and motivate sales and service team members in closing techniques, product knowledge, and customer objection handling to build a high-performing sales culture.
• Customer Relationship Management: Deliver an exceptional sales experience from initial consultation to final sign-off, building repeat client relationships and strong local commercial accounts.
• Operations & Inventory Strategy: Oversee trailer lot layout, inventory presentation, and paperwork execution to ensure products are front-and-center, prepped, and ready for fast customer delivery.
• Store Management & Backup: Partner closely with the Store Manager on daily targets, store performance metrics, and scheduling - stepping in to run store operations seamlessly in their absence.
• Hands-on Service & Lot Maintenance: Assist with basic trailer preps, hitch setups, and equipment operation (forklift/tractor) while maintaining a safe, professional sales environment.

What We're Looking For

• Proven Sales Drive: 1+ years of successful retail sales, consultative selling, or sales leadership experience with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
• Closing & Negotiation Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to navigate price discussions, handle objections, and close high-value deals.
• Technical & Equipment Aptitude: Comfort learning basic service tasks, towing hookups, and obtaining certification to operate forklifts and light tools.
• Computer & Math Skills: Proficiency with sales management tools, online inventory systems, and basic retail math (calculating discounts, commissions, margins, and taxes).
• Physical & Licensing Requirements: Ability to routinely lift 50-75 lbs, stand/walk outdoors, and obtain required state vehicle sales licenses.
