Big Lots is seeking motivated individuals to support our Stores as we provide essential products at great values to our communities. As a Big Lots Assistant Manager/Key Carrier you will help the Store Manager run the store and deliver strong customer service while meeting company goals.

You will participate in hiring, training and developing the team, handle daily store operations, and ensure safety, asset protection and a welcoming store environment for customers and staff.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior retail and management experience.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and written skills.
• Ability to lift, bend and transport merchandise weighing up to 50lbs; frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and repetitive lifting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager.
• Assist with all store functions and day-to-day activities as directed by the Store Manager.
• Open and close procedures in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Maintain a professional and friendly environment with customers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• Maintain stockroom and sales floor to company standards including recovery.
• Direct hourly Team Members in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Process corporate directives and directives in the Store Operations Weekly Bulletin.

Summary

As a Big Lots Assistant Manager/Key Carrier you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to our customers and supporting the Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager
• Assist with all store functions and day-to-day store activities as directed by the Store Manager
• Able to perform all opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Store Manager
• Assist the Store Manager in protecting and securing all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures including safety guidelines.
• Maintain a professional and friendly environment with customers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• Maintain all areas of the store, including the stockroom and sales floor, to company standards to include recovery.
• When the Store Manager is not on the premises, direct supervisory responsibility for all hourly Team Members.
• Process all SSC Corporate directives.
• Assist the Store Manager on the receipt and return of DSD merchandise.
• Assist Store Manager in the management of freight flow.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards.
• Assist the Store Manager in ordering and stocking all merchandise needs.
• Assist the Store Manager in maintaining stockroom organization.
• Assist the Store Manager in ensuring that the sales floor is sales effective daily.
• Assist the Store Manager in planning and implementing all directives in the Store Operations Weekly Bulletin.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior retail and management experience.

• Ability to lift, bend and transport merchandise weighing up to 50lbs from floor level to above shoulder height; must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Experience

1-2 years of retail and/or leadership experience a plus
