Summary
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties specific to that role, though most responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
- Answer questions regarding store and merchandise confidently.
- Assist Guests in locating merchandise based on their needs and desires.
- Upsell and suggest additional items to enhance the shopping experience.
- Demonstrate product knowledge and share sales education with the team.
- Stay informed about current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices.
- Achieve personal sales goals and contribute to store sales targets.
- Provide excellent service in all areas: front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register.
- Handle exchanges and returns effectively, turning them into sales opportunities.
- Utilize the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to meet goals.
- Expand Guest relationships and develop a client-based business.
- Lead by example with showmanship and customer service excellence.
- Recognize Guest levels and communicate effectively with the team.
- Seek feedback and coachability to improve sales and service skills.
- Perform leadership actions consistently, regardless of management presence.
- Plan sales goals with the Store Manager and own store’s sales performance.
- Passion for product education and showmanship to create results.
Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
- Identify recruiting opportunities using various tools and referrals.
- Coach and develop new Teammates, ensuring they meet standards.
- Create a positive and motivating floor culture.
- Maintain a professional appearance and encourage fashion trends.
- Participate in daily training and impact sessions using the Performance Tracker.
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks and develop results in their areas.
- Assist in store education focus and delegate accordingly.
- Support recruitment efforts and maintain top talent contact lists.
- Train and coach on non-sales positions and leadership playbook.
- Identify and address Teammate training needs proactively.
Visual Merchandise Management
- Own product zones, recognize opportunities, and assign tasks to Teammates.
- Demonstrate new visual tools and ensure standards are maintained.
- Coordinate visual displays, freight, and product lifecycle management.
- Conduct store tours and ensure visual standards are met.
- Anticipate product changes and improve visual results independently.
Operations
- Work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Use planners and checklists for opening and closing procedures.
- Recognize and prevent security risks and thefts.
- Follow POS procedures and handle calls professionally.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store environment.
- Report concerns and policy violations appropriately.
- Complete all HR documentation promptly and accurately.
- Assist with inventory management, markdowns, freight, and store emergencies.
Leadership and Supervision
- Provide and receive feedback professionally.
- Support store growth and demonstrate leadership daily.
- Conduct interviews and support team development.
- Motivate and problem-solve with the team.
- Engage in self-education and share knowledge.
- Travel and cover other stores as needed.
- Perform other duties to support store success.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or related retail experience.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel, including overnight stays.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
