GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for managing and supervising all areas assigned by the Store Manager, following policies regarding Customers, Associates, and merchandising. Responsible for learning all phases of Store operations. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager leads the entire operation to ensure that Company standards and best practices are consistently met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General Operating Requirements:
  • Leads all Company Best Practices and maximizes productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
  • Assists in analyzing Store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall Store performance.
  • Communicates any variances to Company standards to the Store Manager.
  • Ensures proper scheduling of Associates to meet business objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with all State, Local, and Federal regulations.
  • Ensures scheduling and completion of all Associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
  • Accepts special assignments as directed by Leadership.
  • Responsible for payroll administration, including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.
Organizational Development:
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt Associates.
  • Ensures compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assists with Associate Relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager as needed.
Expense Control:
  • Assists in managing and monitoring actual expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Controls payroll hours to plan, adjusting to current business trends.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment:
  • Understands safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors.
  • Ensures all Associates understand and can execute emergency procedures.
  • Maintains adherence to safety policies, ensuring the safety of Associates and Customers.
  • Assists in facilitating monthly safety meetings.
Customer Service:
  • Treats all Customers, Associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognizes Associates using recognition programs.
  • Executes customer service and merchandise presentation programs through training and supervision.
  • Supervises and coaches Associates in providing efficient and friendly service across all customer touchpoints.
Personal and Store Brand:
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintains a professional appearance according to the Dress Code and reinforces it.
  • Ensures the store is clean, neat, and easy to shop.
  • Maintains high housekeeping standards, coordinating with maintenance personnel and Associates.
Merchandise Processing and In-Store Marketing:
  • Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet standards through teaching, assigning, and following up.
  • Organizes merchandise according to merchandising guidelines.
  • Manages merchandise processing efficiently to the sales floor.
Loss Prevention:
  • Trains Associates on Loss Prevention awareness and goals.
  • Demonstrates integrity and safeguards confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
  • Maintains a strong Customer service presence and heightened Loss Prevention awareness.
  • Leads inventory processes and monitors stock policies.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of the PVM system.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Two or more years of Store or Assistant Store Manager experience in retail.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with Associates.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and follow through.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • High-quality Customer service skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Basic math skills relevant to retail.
Physical Requirements/ADA:
  • Ability to use store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of the time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop as needed.
  • Ability to lift over 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to use janitorial and store equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Direct supervision of all non-exempt Associates.

Compensation and Benefits:

The base pay range is $18.50 - $21.51, depending on experience, skills, and location. Benefits include insurance programs, employee discounts, 401K, stock purchase, and other perks. Full-time positions may be eligible for additional benefits and bonuses.
