Learn the operations of all departments and the duties of store management; share responsibility for store performance in all areas of operation/human resources. Perform scheduling, security, maintenance, safety, sanitation, ordering, administration & Human Resource-related duties. Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1 year of experience as department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
  • Store manager/district manager or direct manager approval

Desired qualifications:

  • Retail management experience & knowledge of all aspects of store operations
  • Staff supervisory experience

The role involves:

  • Assisting store manager & associates in achieving a favorable customer shopping experience & developing associate interest in customer service/relations.
  • Leading teams in planning, implementing & executing merchandising/operating initiatives.
  • Developing action plans based on associate survey results.
  • Identifying store opportunities, developing solutions, and ensuring plan implementation.
  • Modeling high levels of customer service and resolving issues.
  • Managing total store operations in the absence of the store manager.
  • Achieving sales, wage, profit goals, and other targets like safety and shrink.
  • Driving sales and profits, reducing shrink, and improving departmental contributions.
  • Participating in financial performance discussions and budget development.
  • Analyzing the competitive landscape and demonstrating inclusive leadership.
  • Utilizing staff to meet sales/profit goals and execute merchandising plans.
  • Building relationships with community organizations and union representatives.
  • Communicating effectively with staff and serving as a liaison with district managers and coordinators.
  • Assisting in staffing, reducing turnover, and increasing retention.
  • Providing performance feedback and managing labor and supply costs.
  • Ensuring legal and policy compliance, supervising and coaching staff, and conducting performance reviews.
