Learn the operations of all departments and the duties of store management; share responsibility for store performance in all areas of operation/human resources. Perform scheduling, security, maintenance, safety, sanitation, ordering, administration & Human Resource-related duties. Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1 year of experience as department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
  • Store manager/district manager or direct manager approval

Desired qualifications:

  • Retail management experience & knowledge of all aspects of store operations
  • Staff supervisory experience

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist store manager & associates in achieving a favorable customer shopping experience & develop associate interest in customer service/relations to enhance Kroger's reputation
  • Assist store manager in leading teams in planning, implementing & executing merchandising/operating initiatives
  • Assist store manager with developing action plans/communications to associates on survey results
  • Work with department heads/store associates to identify store opportunities, develop solutions & create action plans
  • Role model/demand a high level of customer service & resolve issues/concerns
  • Manage total store operations in store manager’s absence
  • Achieve/exceed sales, wage budgets & profit targets, including safety and shrink goals
  • Drive sales by collaborating with department managers to maximize sales & profits, reduce shrink & improve departmental contributions
  • Participate in financial performance discussions & develop budgets
  • Analyze/respond to competitive landscape
  • Demonstrate inclusionary leadership; promote inclusive behavior
  • Coordinate with field staff to ensure departmental goals are met & division plans are executed
  • Build relationships with community organizations & union representatives if applicable
  • Communicate effectively with staff
  • Serve as liaison to management & coordinators
  • Assist in staffing, reducing turnover & increasing retention
  • Provide performance feedback & manage labor & supply costs
  • Ensure compliance with laws & policies
  • Supervise and coach staff, conduct performance reviews
  • Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
