Provides direction related to operations, processes, and conditions of the store. Plans, directs, and supervises the team in the day-to-day operation of the store. Is responsible for the selection, training, development, and performance management of all team members in span of care. Develops strategies to improve customer service, drives store sales, and increases profitability. Ensures customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively and efficiently, and service is quick and efficient. Ensures that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. Forecasts staffing needs and develops recruiting strategies to provide optimal staffing in all areas. Works in a manner that reflects the Meijer brand and values.

Purpose:

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Overall operations responsibility across food and general merchandise areas.
  • Management of planograms, seasonal resets, and endcaps.
  • Engaging team members and leadership to provide the best shopping experience.
  • Creating a culture that drives positive team member engagement to retain and recruit talent.
  • Identifying, selecting, and developing talent within the store.
  • Upholding cultural standards and values through effective communication.
  • Assessing financial results and implementing strategies to drive profitability.
  • Developing strategies to improve customer service, sales, and profitability.
  • Ensuring customer needs are met and complaints resolved efficiently.
  • Merchandising products and displays to maximize sales.
  • Being a strong community partner by cultivating relationships locally.

What You'll be Doing:

Assist the Store Director in running overall store operations as needed.

  • Lead performance management activities for leaders and team members.
  • Attract, select, and retain a team supporting Meijer's culture, including diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Communicate daily with the team through huddles and updates.
  • Drive open communication based on Meijer's Care and Accountability philosophy.
  • Maintain product freshness standards and ensure process adherence.
  • Manage store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Ensure operations comply with food safety standards.
  • Create connections with communities and customers.
  • Deliver key performance metrics: sales, shrink, labor, margin, profit, customer satisfaction, safety.
  • Implement new initiatives and stay informed on market trends.
  • Oversee daily execution of DSD, backroom, and salesfloor excellence.
  • Monitor competitive trends and strengths/weaknesses.
  • Follow merchandising plans and design plans using 85/15 principles.
  • This profile is not exhaustive; other duties may be assigned.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of retail/grocery/operations management/customer service experience.
  • 4+ years of progressive leadership experience.
  • A passion for leading teams and providing excellent service.
  • Proactive and creative thinking skills.
  • Understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Innovative attitude to set industry standards.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
