Job summary

Park Rapids High School Fine Arts Department is seeking an enthusiastic Co Assistant Speech Coach to support the seasonal speech competition program. The role focuses on guiding students in public speaking, mentoring in various speech categories, and collaborating with the head coach to prepare for local and state events.

A background in education, theater, or communications is a plus, with evenings and weekend availability during competition season. A background check is required by policy.

Qualifications

• Experience in speech or competitive performance is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback to students.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends during competition season.
• Background check required by school district policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head speech coach in planning and executing practice sessions and workshops.
• Provide individualized coaching to students in various speech categories (dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, original oratory).
• Help develop and refine students’ speech content, delivery techniques, and performance skills.
• Collaborate with the head coach to organize team meetings, practices, and competitions.
• Attend and support students at local, regional, and state competitions.
• Foster a positive and inclusive team environment encouraging student participation and growth.
• Maintain communication with students and parents regarding schedules, expectations, and performance updates.
• Assist with administrative tasks related to the speech program, including record-keeping and competition registration.
