Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. seeks an Assistant Safety Manager to promote a proactive safety culture and administer the PHE safety program on a project site. This role partners with McCarthy employees and on-site subcontractors to foster a safe work environment.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree (preferred), 3+ years of safety leadership on large construction projects, and OSHA 500 (preferred). Spanish bilingualism is a plus, with travel within the region as necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing safety efforts on large healthcare, commercial, industrial projects.
• OSHA 500 preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Ability to manage safety orientations and administer safety programs on-site.
• Ability to work with management, owners, trades and subcontractors.
• Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel within the region as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and discuss safety programs with on-site subcontractors and McCarthy employees.
• Conduct safety and health inspections at least twice per month.
• Coordinate with Project Supervision to ensure PPE and safety materials are used.
• Investigate injuries and review accident reports, logging OSHA records.
• Minimize hazards and enforce safety policies.
• Conduct Project Safety Toolbox meetings weekly.
• Forward copies of all safety-related meetings and documents to the Division Safety Director.
