Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. seeks an Assistant Safety Manager to promote a proactive safety culture and manage the safety program on Water & Wastewater construction projects, guiding on-site teams to maintain a safe work environment.

Responsibilities include coordinating safety inspections, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and ensuring OSHA compliance, with collaboration across project supervision and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' experience managing safety efforts on large healthcare, commercial, industrial, or similar construction projects.
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
• OSHA 500 and BCSP certifications preferred.
• Ability to manage/administer safety orientations, oversee substance abuse programs, investigate/report on injuries/illnesses/near misses and perform other safety functions on-site.
• Ability to work with all construction groups - management, owners, trades and subcontractors.
• Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel or relocation within the region as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and discuss safety programs with on-site subcontractors and McCarthy employees to embed safety into culture.
• Conduct documented safety inspections at least twice per month and coordinate reports with the insurance provider.
• Coordinate with Project Supervision to ensure protective equipment, first aid materials, and safety postings are available on-site.
• Investigate injuries and review accident reports, coordinating corrective measures with employees and logging injuries for OSHA.
• Enforce safety policies using the company disciplinary policy to minimize hazards.
• Conduct/coordinate weekly Project Safety Toolbox meetings with all McCarthy employees.
• Record and forward copies of safety-related meetings, programs, inspections, and directives to the Division Safety Director for tracking.
