Job summary

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is seeking an Assistant Restaurant Manager to support the Shores Hotel restaurant and Club Dining outlets. You will coordinate daily dining activities, supervise staff, and uphold Signature Service standards for exceptional member and guest experiences.

Responsibilities include staffing, task delegation, food quality inspection, and ensuring compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in restaurant or hospitality management.
  • San Diego County Food Handlers Card and RBS certification.

About the Role

The Assistant Restaurant Manager supports overall operations of the Shores Hotel restaurant and Club Dining outlets, coordinating daily food service activities and supervising staff. This position upholds and promotes the company’s Signature Service standards to ensure an exceptional member and guest experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper staffing and maintain floor operations throughout the shift.
  • Assign tasks to employees and monitor performance to meet quality service standards.
  • Fill in as needed on the dining floor and in the bar.
  • Inspect food and food preparation to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Delegate responsibilities and follow up to maintain cleanliness.
  • Investigate and resolve food quality and service complaints.
  • Review financial transactions and monitor budget to ensure efficient operation and expenditures stay within budget limits.
  • Evaluate and appraise performance of subordinate employees, provide feedback, and conduct formal periodic appraisals (90‑day and annual).
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and relevant federal and state laws.
  • Document performance‑related issues such as guest comments, warnings, awards, and achievements.
  • Plan and organize daily work activities for employees and set weekly or monthly goals for the restaurant.
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Assist in supervision of service staff, coordinating direction, and evaluation.
  • In the absence of the restaurant manager, assume overall direction and decision‑making for guests’ best interest.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Appraise employee performance, reward and discipline employees, and address complaints and resolve problems.

Salary Range

$73,840–$75,000

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; or 3–5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Related experience in restaurant or hospitality management.
  • Certifications: Current San Diego County Food Handlers Card and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification.
Skills
  • Language: Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Present information in English to managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical: Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
  • Technical: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and spreadsheet programs such as Excel.
Physical Demands

Requires standing, walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle objects, reaching, lifting up to 10pounds frequently and up to 25pounds occasionally. Requires adjustment of vision focus and tolerance for wet, humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and moderate to loud noise.

Working Conditions

Work environment may include moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, burns from hot equipment, and lacerations from sharp objects. Noise level usually moderate to loud. Pace is generally moderate to fast. Employees must follow all safety procedures.

Interaction

Daily interaction with guests, kitchen and dining service personnel, Human Resources, Purchasing, other department managers, Accounting, other department supervisors, and E.O.C. members.

Scheduling

Must be available to work weekends and holidays. Company operates 24h/7d. Schedule adjustments may occur per business needs.
