Job summary

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Inc. in La Jolla, CA, is seeking an Assistant Restaurant Manager to support Shores Hotel restaurant and Club Dining outlets.

You’ll coordinate daily food service activities, work independently and with supervision to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences. The role requires hands-on leadership, staffing, quality control, and adherence to Signature Service standards.

Responsibilities

• Assures floor is properly staffed and maintained during shifts.

• Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints.
• Monitors budget and financial transactions to stay within limits.
• Evaluates staff performance and conducts periodic appraisals.
• Rewards, coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees as needed.
• Documents performance issues and maintains records.
• Helps plan daily work activities and set weekly/monthly goals for the restaurant.

Summary

The Assistant Restaurant Manager supports the overall operations of the Shores Hotel restaurant and Club Dining outlets. This role coordinates and oversees daily food service activities, working both independently and through supervisory oversight of staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assures that floor is properly staffed and maintained throughout his/her shift.
• In conjunction with the manager, assigns work to employees and monitors performance to ensure that quality service standards are maintained.
• Fills in as needed by business demand on the dining floor and in the bar.
• Inspects food and food preparation to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations. Delegate responsibility with follow‑up to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness.
• Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints.
• Reviews financial transactions and monitors budget to ensure efficient operation, and to ensure expenditures stay within budget limitations.
• Evaluates and appraises performance of subordinate employees. Regularly provides employees with positive and/or negative feedback regarding performance. Promptly conducts formal periodically scheduled appraisals (i.e. 90 day and annual reviews).
• Based on performance, appropriately rewards, coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees. Adheres to applicable company policies and procedures and applicable federal and state laws.
• Properly documents performance related issues (i.e. Guest comments, verbal or written warnings, awards and achievements).
• Helps plan and organize daily work activities for employees and helps set weekly and/or monthly goals for the Restaurant.
• Other duties may be assigned.

OUTCOME

In the absence of the Manager, the Assistant Manager will assume the responsibilities of managing the total operation of the restaurant. This includes all decisions to be made for the guests’ best interest during all hours
