Job summary

Arcadis seeks an Assistant Resident Engineer to back the Senior Resident Engineer on transit/rail projects in Chicago. You’ll oversee field administration, coordinate contractors, and ensure compliance with contract docs, safety, and schedules in a live transit environment.

Responsibilities include tracking submittals, preparing minutes, and supporting pay apps and closeout. Strong documentation, communication, and coordination with CTA/Metra and design teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field required.
• PE license preferred; EIT with path toward PE considered.
• Minimum of 8 years in construction management, resident engineering, field engineering, or inspection, preferably on transit/rail projects.
• Station construction or renovation experience with passenger facilities, platforms, and track-adjacent work.
• Familiarity with contractor safety coordination, rail/transit access procedures, outage planning, and public-facing work.
• Experience with CTA, Metra, or similar rail/transit owners is preferred.
• Strong documentation, communication, and coordination skills for multi-stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

• Support the Senior Resident Engineer with day-to-day field administration and contractor coordination.
• Track submittals, schedules, testing docs, and insurance to ensure timely reviews.
• Coordinate meetings with contractors, facility personnel, design consultants, and agency reps.
• Prepare meeting minutes, action item logs, and project correspondence.
• Verify material inspections, testing, and quality documentation are completed and filed.
• Maintain inspection records, daily reports, photos, and submittal logs.
• Monitor progress against construction schedule and flag delays or outages.
• Assist with changes, field directives, and cost/schedule impacts.
• Support review of contractor pay applications for quantities and progress.
• Coordinate with inspection staff for field reports and testing records.
• Assist in final closeout, punch lists, as-builts, warranties, and O&M materials.
