Job summary

BERKELEY COUNTY GOVERNMENT seeks a Communications Specialist to support the Public Information Officer in developing and coordinating messaging for internal and external audiences. The role includes crafting news releases, managing social media, and creating digital content to advance county goals.

Responsibilities include event support, graphic design tasks, branding enforcement, and responding to public/media inquiries while ensuring timely delivery and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Mass Communications or Marketing.
• Three (3) years of related communications experience.

Responsibilities

• Drafts news releases, media advisories, and official statements.
• Manages and monitors county social media accounts; writes posts, schedules content, tracks engagement.
• Creates informational graphics, flyers, and other digital media for dissemination.
• Supports planning and photographing County events; attends events as needed.
• Coordinates with Emergency Management to communicate with public/media during incidents.
• Represents the department at public appearances as needed.
• Owns, manages and enforces County-wide branding strategy and standards.
• Supports the PIO in management of public-facing messaging across channels.
