Job summary

Oakland County seeks an Assistant Prosecutor I to begin building a career in public service. You will review evidence, file warranted charges, draft legal documents, and appear in court to advance criminal cases. You’ll work with law enforcement and prosecutors to ensure proper procedures and fair prosecution.

Under supervision, you will gain hands-on courtroom experience, handle preliminary examinations, and contribute to investigations while learning the prosecutorial process in Michigan.

Qualifications

• Must be admitted to the Michigan Bar and in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Reviews facts and evidence from law enforcement to determine if a warrant should be authorized.
• Determines proper criminal charges and prepares arrest warrants and related legal documents.
• Advices law enforcement on proper legal procedures during investigations.
• Assists in investigations by drafting warrants, subpoenas, search warrants and affidavits.
• Conducts District Court trials for state misdemeanor cases and handles preliminary examinations in felony cases.
• Represents the People of Michigan in required proceedings in District or Circuit Courts, including arraignments and sentencing.
