Qualifications
- Law degree required and Michigan Bar membership.
- Knowledge of constitutions, case law, statutes, and rules of evidence.
- Strong research, writing, and public speaking abilities.
- Ability to analyze facts impartially and think logically.
Responsibilities
- Advise DHHS staff on child protection matters.
- Review for legal sufficiency and approve or deny petitions.
- Advise the police regarding case investigations and search warrants.
- Review police reports and approve or deny filing of charges.
- Conduct pre-trial conferences.
- Appear at child protection and delinquency hearings.
- Arrange for service of process in child protection cases.
- Prepare and present in court cases including motions and trials.
- Prepare and present in court termination of parental rights petitions.
- Represent petitioners at Probate Court mental commitment hearings.
- Attend Family Recovery Court meetings.
- Serve as a representative in Van Buren County Treatment Courts.
- Represent the Secretary of State at Driver License hearings.
- Appear at PPO arraignments and represent petitioners at PPO hearings.
