Job summary

Houston Public Works is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the Transportation Rehabilitation Team. This role will help plan, coordinate, and execute street rehabilitation and roadway improvement projects from pre-construction through completion.

Responsibilities include coordinating with project managers, field staff, engineers, and contractors to ensure safety, on-schedule delivery, and budget conformity.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or related field.
• Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
• No experience is required; experience may be substituted year-for-year by education.
• Preference will be given to candidates with CCM designation (CMAA).

Responsibilities

• Assists in the coordination and oversight of work activities by construction personnel, technical professionals, consultants, and other outside agencies.
• Assists in developing contractual budgetary controls, managing schedules, and establishing/executing the scope of work.
• Conducts inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and requirements.
• Provides timely responses to submittals from construction personnel; verifies and processes progress payments and negotiates cost changes to contracts.
• Monitors documentation and processing of information affecting required change orders.
• Prepares and maintains various reports and records on project execution.
• Prepares and evaluates processes and procedures to ensure project goals are achieved; provides technical solutions to challenges encountered during construction or design activities.
• Driving to and from active projects, design, construction sites, and site meetings.
