Job summary

LJA Transportation seeks a Project Engineer to provide technical and engineering support, including proposals and cost estimates. You will lead traffic and transportation projects, manage staff, and ensure performance within scope, schedule, and budget.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of FDOT-related experience and proficient use of MicroStation, Geopak/OpenRoads, and SYNCHRO. Licensed PE and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent required.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is required or current licensure in process with immediate reciprocity.
• Experience performing traffic studies, signal warrant analyses and traffic management plans.
• Proficient with FDOT procedures and software including MicroStation, Geopak/OpenRoads.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic and transportation systems analysis, planning and design.
• Determine project feasibility based on data analysis.
• Ensure performance meets scope, schedule and budget.
• Manage and design traffic signal projects, signing, striping, illumination, ITS, and traffic control plans for FDOT, counties, and municipalities.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the group including business development and project management.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Project Engineer at LJA Transportation, you will be responsible for Provides technical and engineering support, including technical proposals and cost estimates

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

• Performs traffic and transportation systems analysis, planning and design.
• Determines feasibility of projects based on analysis of collected data.
• Responsible for performance to scope, schedule and budget.
• Responsible for performance of project staff.
• Manage and design traffic signal projects, signing, striping, illumination, ITS, and traffic control plans for FDOT, counties and local municipalities
• Prepare traffic studies that include traffic impact analysis for private clients, and level of service analysis and travel demand modeling for public clients
• Oversees day to day operations of group including business development activities and project management responsibilities.
• Mentoring direct reports, and conveying knowledge to others
• Team lunches/breakfasts and social activities

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Science Degree, Civil Engineering
• Licensed as a Professional Engineer

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3 to 5 years of experience with MicroStation, Geopak (or Open Roads) and FDOT procedures
• Experienced in completing engineering studies including traffic impact analysis, signal warrant studies and traffic management plans for private clients
• Experience using SYNCHRO
• Effective communication skills to engage with project teams
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing work assignments and project needs, often on short notice.
• An open mind to alternative methods from what you have previously been taught
• A team attitude.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

• Experience with MicroStation ORD
• Experience with Large Scale FDOT Projects
• Advanced skills in specialized software programs
• Technical Training Experience
• Experience using CORSIM, HCS, Trans CAD, VISSIM, and AGI32 is a plus
• Proven experience in handling multiple tasks and deadlines
