Job summary

Tiello LLC in the Greater Richmond area seeks an Assistant Project Manager for structural steel fabrication and erection. You will coordinate shop fabrication and field erection activities, working with project managers, detailers, fabricators, and field teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

The role requires 1-3+ years in construction, knowledge of shop drawings, and TEKLA EPM; strong communication across office and field teams is essential. Eligible to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • MUST HAVE at least 1-3+ years of experience in construction, preferably within structural steel fabrication or erection
  • Understanding of shop drawings, steel detailing, and erection processes
  • Familiarity with project management principles, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across office and field teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of fabrication processes, shop workflow, and project lifecycle
  • Working knowledge of TEKLA EPM software
  • Blue Beam/MS Office Products
  • Experience coordinating across multiple departments (detailing, procurement, production, field)
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) or equivalent industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing structural steel projects including fabrication, delivery, and erection phases
  • Coordinate with detailers on shop drawings, RFIs, and revisions to ensure accuracy and alignment with project specs
  • Track and manage material procurement, lead times, and production schedules with fabrication teams
  • Support project budgeting, cost tracking, and change order management
  • Communicate with general contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain project flow and resolve issues
  • Help oversee erection sequencing, logistics, and field coordination to ensure safe and efficient installation
  • Monitor project schedules and proactively identify risks or delays
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality control, and contract requirements
  • Maintain project documentation including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout materials

Tiello has partnered with a well-established Structural Steel Fabricator/Erector in the Greater Richmond, VA area on their search for an Assistant Project Manager. This fabricator and erector supports a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial projects and is known for delivering complex steel packages with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful execution of structural steel projects from preconstruction through closeout, working closely with Project Managers, detailers, fabricators, and field teams. This role plays a key part in coordinating shop fabrication and field erection activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.

Project Types: Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals - Commercial/Industrial (Healthcare, Data Centers, Warehouses, Education)
