Job summary

AlphaGov in Richmond, Virginia, seeks an Assistant Project Manager with hands-on commercial general contracting experience to support construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout. You will coordinate field and office operations, develop skills to advance to a full Project Manager role, and work with teams to ensure project success.

Qualifications

• Commercial construction experience preferred or required.
• Experience with general contracting and subcontractor coordination.
• Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and schedules.
• Ability to review drawings and identify coordination issues.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant practical experience may substitute.

Responsibilities

• Support commercial construction projects from planning through closeout.
• Coordinate daily activities with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and clients.
• Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and meeting minutes.
• Review drawings and contracts to identify discrepancies and coordination issues.
• Assist in developing project schedules and monitor milestones.
• Monitor budgets and costs to support financial control.
• Attend project meetings and document decisions.
• Gradually assume greater scheduling, cost management, and execution responsibilities.
