Job summary

Dugan & Meyers LLC seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Manager across all project stages. You will help coordinate communications among clients, architects, engineers, and contractors, assist with cost control, scheduling, and reporting, and contribute to safety initiatives on site.

The role requires a BS in engineering or construction management and at least 3 years of construction experience, with strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Supports safety program delivery and coordination with project team and safety leads.
  • Participates in project documentation: reports, RFIs, minutes, and correspondence.
  • Helps with pre-award and post-award activities, subcontractor pre-qualification and closeouts.
  • Mentors junior staff and coordinates staffing with Project Manager and regional leaders.
  • Assists with financial aspects: change orders, payments, and projected financials.

Job description

Primary Function:

The Assistant Project Manager serves as a representative of Dugan & Meyers LLC on each project and assists the Project Manager in all phases of the project’s operation and completion as delineated by the Project Manager. He or she provides leadership and performs in a professional and effective manner.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintains effective communications with the client, architect, engineers and contractors.
  • In conjunction with the Project Manager, Estimating and Accounting Departments, assists in cost control and reporting procedures.
  • Assists with monitoring the delivery of the project safety program using current company guidelines. Coordinates with the Project Manager, Superintendent, Corporate Safety Director and/or the Regional Safety Manager in a timely manner. Regularly reviews the project for safety related issues and ensures any safety issues are immediately addressed with the Project Team. Periodically participates in Tool Box talks and other jobsite safety meetings to exhibit management’s commitment to safety.
  • Provides support to the Project Team and shares responsibility to ensure an initial schedule is issued and corporate scheduling policies are followed. Assists in the active management and updating of the schedule including the critical path and all milestones to ensure project completion goals are met or exceeded.
  • Maintains project controls and documentation (daily, weekly & monthly reports, RFI’s, field orders, minutes and correspondence) through the life of the project.
  • Assists with pre-award conference checklists, exhibits and draft subcontracts and purchase orders. Ensures all proposed subcontractors are pre-qualified.
  • Works with the Project Manager to formulate goals and objectives of the project and illustrates them in detailed project schedules of both time and values. In conjunction with the Project Manager, reviews with the team and identifies baseline profit goals and submits the information to the Operations Manager and Vice President of Operations.
  • Provides support in the coordination of staffing requirements with the Project Manager, Regional Operations Manager and/or General Superintendent.
  • Assists with the financial aspects of contracts, including change orders, applications for payment, contractor and supplier payments, equipment rentals, back charges, etc., as requested by the Project Manager. Assists in preparation of a monthly financial projection and attends a monthly financial review with Business Unit Vice President as well as the Vice President of Operations or Regional Operations Manager.
  • Assists in the monitoring and control construction activity and represents the company at project meetings. Supports the Project Manager in post award pre-construction meetings with large, key sub-contractors and perform a "page turn" review of the project with the designated team.
  • Participates in a post-project evaluation to carry "lessons learned" to future projects.
  • Supervises, mentors and trains the Project Engineer and Co-ops on the Project. Ensures materials are expedited to the project in accordance with the project schedule. Performs Project Engineering duties for the project if no Project Engineer is assigned.
  • Supports quality control and ensure measures are taken within D&M policy. Maintains control logs, deviation reports and other QC measures to ensure not only deviations are acknowledged but resolved in a timely manner. Confirms all appropriate as-builts are received and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Actively mentors the project team and assist less experienced coworkers where appropriate to ensure long term company success.
  • Assists in early closeouts goals and oversee the closeout process to ensure timely closeout, warranty and final as built submission and final payment are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Performs additional assignments as directed by Project Manager and/or Regional Operations Manager.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

Educational and experience requirements include a BS degree in engineering or construction management with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of construction, design, finance and management plus thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, standards and procedures required. Superior communication, attention to detail and interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy are essential.
