Job summary

Framework - Construction Recruiting is partnering with a design-build general contractor in Brighton, MI to hire an Assistant Project Manager for the commercial construction team. You will support cost, schedules, and collaboration across engineers, architects, and subcontractors, reporting to the Director of Operations.

With 2+ years in an Assistant PM or related role, you will help ensure projects stay on time and within budget while building client relationships and contributing to a 35-state

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in Assistant Project Manager or similar construction support role.
  • Strong understanding of construction cost management, scheduling, and contracts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the company professionally on every project.
  • Lead and collaborate with engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain positive client relationships and project team communication.
  • Manage and forecast project costs; report progress to Operations Director.
  • Prepare cost estimates and change orders to support owner decisions.
  • Review documents to ensure design and budget alignment.
  • Develop and monitor a comprehensive project plan through completion.
  • Identify and mitigate issues across the project lifecycle.
  • Lead client meetings and record meeting minutes.
  • Review subcontractor bids and negotiate contracts and changes.
  • Prepare and issue subcontractor POs and change orders.
  • Review subcontractor invoicing for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with Superintendent on project scheduling and permits.
  • Develop and maintain project checklists for design, permitting, and closeout.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance and report issues.
  • Document key events and maintain historical data.

Job description

We are working with a well-established design-build general contractor based in Brighton, Michigan to find an Assistant Project Manager to support their commercial construction team. This company has been building since 1997 with a culture built around planning, accountability, and doing things the right way. They operate across healthcare, retail, office, auto dealership, mixed‑use, and industrial sectors and are licensed to build in 35 states. This position supports all aspects of the building process, helping ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, and reports to the Director of Operations.

What You'll Do
  • Represent the company professionally across every project
  • Lead and collaborate with project team members, including engineers, architects, third-party consultants, and subcontractors
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with project team members and clients
  • Manage and forecast project costs and report progress to the Director of Operations
  • Prepare and present cost estimates and change orders to support owner decision making during construction
  • Review and maintain project documents to ensure compliance with design and budget intent
  • Develop a comprehensive project plan and track progress through completion
  • Identify and respond to potential issues throughout the life of the project
  • Lead regular customer meetings, including agenda preparation and meeting minutes
  • Conduct subcontractor bid analysis and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Prepare subcontractor purchase orders and change orders
  • Review and approve subcontractor invoicing
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate the project schedule in collaboration with the Superintendent
  • Submit and obtain permits from appropriate municipal authorities
  • Develop and maintain project checklists across design, permitting, and closeout
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards and report issues
  • Document key project events and maintain historical project data
  • Maintain and provide feedback on internal project cost tracking systems
  • Attend company and industry events, including meetings, trainings, and workshops
  • Contribute to building and maintaining company culture
What You'll Bring
  • 2 or more years of experience in an Assistant Project Manager or similar construction support role
  • Strong understanding of construction cost management, scheduling, and contract administration
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple project priorities at once
  • Strong written and verbal communication with solid interpersonal skills
  • A problem-solving mindset with sound judgment in decision making
  • Strong customer service orientation and professionalism in client-facing settings
  • Valid driver's license
