We are working with a well-established design-build general contractor based in Brighton, Michigan to find an Assistant Project Manager to support their commercial construction team. This position supports all aspects of the building process, helping ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, and reports to the Director of Operations.
What You'll Do
- Represent the company professionally across every project
- Lead and collaborate with project team members, including engineers, architects, third-party consultants, and subcontractors
- Maintain positive relationships and communication with project team members and clients
- Manage and forecast project costs and report progress to the Director of Operations
- Prepare and present cost estimates and change orders to support owner decision making during construction
- Review and maintain project documents to ensure compliance with design and budget intent
- Develop a comprehensive project plan and track progress through completion
- Identify and respond to potential issues throughout the life of the project
- Lead regular customer meetings, including agenda preparation and meeting minutes
- Conduct subcontractor bid analysis and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers
- Prepare subcontractor purchase orders and change orders
- Review and approve subcontractor invoicing
- Develop, maintain, and evaluate the project schedule in collaboration with the Superintendent
- Submit and obtain permits from appropriate municipal authorities
- Develop and maintain project checklists across design, permitting, and closeout
- Ensure adherence to health and safety standards and report issues
- Document key project events and maintain historical project data
- Maintain and provide feedback on internal project cost tracking systems
- Attend company and industry events, including meetings, trainings, and workshops
- Contribute to building and maintaining company culture
What You'll Bring
- 2 or more years of experience in an Assistant Project Manager or similar construction support role
- Strong understanding of construction cost management, scheduling, and contract administration
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple project priorities at once
- Strong written and verbal communication with solid interpersonal skills
- A problem-solving mindset with sound judgment in decision making
- Strong customer service orientation and professionalism in client-facing settings
- Valid driver's license
