With deep regional roots and a collaborative, growth-oriented culture, the company offers the stability of an established contractor while empowering team members to take ownership, learn from experienced project and field leaders, and build meaningful careers supporting high-impact infrastructure projects across the region.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer will support the successful planning and execution of heavy civil and infrastructure projects from preconstruction through closeout, serving as a key link between project management, field operations, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and clients to keep documentation, submittals, procurement, schedules, and communications organized and on track. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment, with a genuine interest in solving problems, coordinating moving parts, and building the experience needed to grow into greater project leadership responsibility within a well-established construction organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate documentation and communication among owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, field personnel, and internal project teams.
  • Manage the submittal process from preparation through final approval, ensuring requirements, deadlines, and documentation are properly tracked.
  • Coordinate procurement activities for project materials and equipment, including vendor quotes, supplier information, lead times, delivery schedules, and follow-up.

  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating project schedules using Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar software.
  • Monitor key milestones, communicate schedule updates, and coordinate with field personnel to ensure plans remain current and realistic.
  • Support planning efforts by identifying upcoming material, labor, subcontractor, and operational needs.
  • Solicit and coordinate subcontractor participation and maintain communication regarding project scope, schedule, safety, compliance, and deliverables.
  • Participate in project meetings, prepare agendas and meeting minutes, track action items, and follow up on outstanding commitments.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and field operations personnel.
  • Demonstrate a consistent commitment to safety, professionalism, accountability, ethics, and quality project execution.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Business Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant construction experience will also be considered.
  • 3–5 years of experience in construction project coordination, project engineering, project administration, assistant project management, or a related role.
  • Experience supporting heavy civil, bridge, underground utility, water, wastewater, transportation, or broader infrastructure construction projects strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and project-documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or supporting RFIs, submittals, procurement, material tracking, project schedules, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or comparable scheduling software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams; experience with Bluebeam or similar document-management software is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to delivering high-quality work in a team-oriented environment.
