Job summary

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Virginia is seeking an Assistant Program Officer to support community development initiatives across the region. This role focuses on grants management, stakeholder engagement, and program operations to advance equity and opportunity.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of related experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage diverse partnerships. Travel within Virginia is expected as part of regional engagement.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage LISC Virginia’s network of Financial Opportunity Centers and financial stability partners.
• Steward relationships with workforce development, housing, and community partners.
• Plan workshops, conferences, and technical assistance for partners.
• Support grants management, compliance, reporting, and deliverables.
• Collaborate with organizations to strengthen program design and impact measurement.
• Develop and monitor community development and housing programs, aligned with funders’ requirements.
• Cultivate partnerships with government agencies, nonprofits, financial institutions, and funders.
• Represent LISC Virginia in coalitions and regional initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to elevate LISC Virginia’s thought leadership and best practices.
• Develop grant proposals, secure funding, report outcomes, and maintain funder relationships.
• Collect and analyze program data; prepare dashboards and reports.
• Coordinate with national teams for alignment of priorities and initiatives.
• Support cross-functional priorities and special projects; travel across Virginia and beyond.

Position Overview

LISC Virginia is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Assistant Program Officer to support community development initiatives, grantmaking activities, and stakeholder engagement across the region. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, manages multiple priorities with confidence, and is committed to advancing equitable community development through strong operational and programmatic support.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage LISC Virginia's network of Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) and related financial stability partners across the Commonwealth, providing strategic guidance, technical assistance, project management, training, networking opportunities, and ongoing capacity-building support.
• Steward strategic relationships with workforce development, economic mobility, housing, and community development partners to advance LISC Virginia's financial opportunity and wealth-building strategies throughout Virginia.
• Plan and implement workshops, peer learning opportunities, conferences, and technical assistance offerings for partners focused on financial stability, wealth building, homeownership, housing preservation, heirs' property, and asset development initiatives. Responsibilities include program design, speaker coordination, logistics management, and communications.
• Support implementation of federal, state, and philanthropic grant-funded initiatives, including grants management, reimbursement processes, compliance monitoring, reporting requirements, and programmatic deliverables.
• Partner with community-based organizations to strengthen program design, implementation, organizational capacity, and impact measurement related to financial stability, housing, and wealth-building efforts.
• Manage the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of LISC Virginia's community development, housing, and economic opportunity programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and funder requirements.
• Collaborate with LISC Virginia staff to cultivate and manage partnerships with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, corporate partners, and philanthropic funders.
• Represent LISC Virginia in statewide and regional coalitions, initiatives, and stakeholder groups that advance community development, economic opportunity, housing, and equitable growth.
• Identify opportunities, in collaboration with organizational leadership, to elevate LISC Virginia's thought leadership and best practices in financial opportunity, workforce development, housing, wealth building, and community development.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop grant proposals, secure funding resources, report program outcomes to funders, and maintain strong relationships with public and private funding partners.
• Collect, analyze, and manage program data and develop accurate, timely, and accessible reports, grant applications, dashboards, and other materials that demonstrate program impact and outcomes.
• Coordinate with LISC National's Housing, Economic Opportunity, Rural, and Income & Wealth Building teams to ensure program alignment, resource sharing, and implementation of national priorities and initiatives.
• Support cross-functional organizational priorities and special projects as assigned by senior leadership.
• Travel throughout Virginia and periodically outside the Commonwealth for partner engagement, training, peer learning, conferences, and national LISC activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Urban Studies, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 2–4 years of experience in community development, program coordination, or administrative support.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital file management systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners and stakeholders.

LISC offers a competitive salary ($56,748-$70,935) and excellent benefits
