Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) seeks a Program Officer, Lending & Underwriting in its Illinois office. You will originate, underwrite, structure, and close loans advancing community development opportunities in Illinois.
You’ll lead financial analysis, credit memos, and borrower education while partnering with national teams to ensure timely closings and strong portfolio performance.
LISC is one of the country’s largest community development organizations, helping forge vibrant, resilient communities across America. LISC works with residents and partners to close gaps in health, wealth, and opportunity so that people and places can thrive. We do this by acting as a conduit for grants, loans and equity--and by providing technical assistance and capacity building--to locally rooted organizations that carry out the work in communities.
LISC seeks a Program Officer, Lending & Underwriting to serve as a strategic leader in the origination, underwriting, and deployment of community development financing in the LISC Illinois program office. This role is responsible for sourcing, structuring, underwriting, and closing loans in Illinois that advance community development initiatives and support LISC’s mission of strengthening neighborhoods and expanding economic opportunities.
The ideal candidate brings expertise in commercial real estate lending, credit analysis, and transaction structuring, coupled with exceptional attention to detail, strong relationship management skills, and a customer-centered approach. The Program Officer will provide outreach, technical assistance, and underwriting for a broad range of community development projects and asset classes, serving as a trusted advisor to borrowers and partners throughout the lending process.
Working closely with LISC Illinois program office staff and LISC’s National Lending and Legal teams, this position will manage the full lifecycle of lending transactions in Illinois, from business development and underwriting through closing and portfolio support. The role requires strong project management skills, the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines, and a commitment to advancing impactful community investment strategies.
This is a hybrid position based in LISC’s Chicago office and reports directly to the Deputy Director of the LISC Illinois Program Office.
LISC offers a competitive salary ($84,000-$105,000) and excellent fringe benefits.
*Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education, work location and other qualifications.
