The Department of Religious Studies at DePaul University invites applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning September 2027. We are looking for a candidate who specializes in Hebrew Scriptures. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced proficiency in Biblical Hebrew and one or more other ancient languages relevant to the study of the Hebrew Bible (e.g.Ugaritic, Akkadian, Aramaic, or Greek), bringing rigorous textual, theological, and historical analysis to the classroom. They should also be prepared to teach thematic courses, such as Women in the Bible and Ancient Israel: History, Literature, and Religion, as well as a willingness to expand the department’s offerings in Hebrew Bible and to teach in cross-disciplinary programs.
We are interested in applicants from Religious Studies and allied disciplines whose research and teaching complement the interests and strengths of our interdisciplinary Department.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., but advanced ABDs will be considered if degree conferral is expected by the start date.

The salary range for this 10-month position is $67,100 - $72,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Except for the College of Law, DePaul University operates on a quarter system. Classes in Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters are 11 weeks in length (including finals week) and Summer courses, in two sessions, are typically 5 weeks in length. The College of Law operates on the semester system. Classes in the Fall and Spring semesters are 16 weeks in length (including finals week) and it offers a Summer Session of 7 weeks (including final exams).
