The Information School at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Library Information Science, Seattle campus. The appointment begins September 1, 2027, with a nine-month academic year and renewal after three years.

We seek scholars who excel in research, teaching, and service and who will contribute to climate change, health, AI, and information ecosystems. Salary commensurate with experience and in line with UW policies.

Description

The Information School at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic appointment, with a 3-year term, renewable beginning 2027.

The base salary range for this position will be $13,000 - $14,935 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

• The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Conduct high-quality research, and pursue extramural funding as needed to support research;
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization;
• Perform service that furthers the mission of the Information School and the University of Washington more broadly; and
• Contribute to the Information School's strategic areas: climate change, health and wellness, healthy information environments, and responsibility in artificial intelligence.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our Library and Information Science (LIS) research, with areas of relevance including, but not limited to:

• Libraries - Academic, Digital, or Public
• Librarianship - Leadership, Innovation, or Education
• Information Technology - Ethics, Public Interest, and Justice-Oriented Approaches
• Data - Archives, Public / Open, and Humanistic or Scientific Applications
• Artificial Intelligence - Public Interest, Library or Cultural Heritage-Centered, Open-Source Applications in Information Institutions
