Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track, AI
Description

The Information School at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic appointment, with a 3-year term, renewable beginning 2027.

The base salary range for this position will be $13,000 - $14,935 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Conduct high-quality research, and pursue extramural funding as needed to support research;
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization;
  • Perform service that furthers the mission of the Information School and the University of Washington more broadly;
  • Contribute to the Information School's strategic areas: climate change, health and wellness, healthy information environments, and responsibility in artificial intelligence.

The research area of interest for this position is Artificial Intelligence, broadly defined. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to advancing fundamental or applied knowledge in artificial intelligence. This includes but is not limited to topics such as natural language processing and machine learning; computational social science; human-AI collaboration and societal impacts of AI; or AI safety, governance, policy, and cybersecurity.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
