Job summary

The University of Washington Tacoma’s School of Education seeks a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education with a specialization in Critical Disability Studies. The appointee will teach, mentor, and engage in service in a diverse campus community, with courses delivered in-person, online, and hybrid formats.

The position starts September 16, 2027, for an initial three-year term with renewal possible after review, and emphasizes inclusive teaching and scholarly activity

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Special Education or related field by the start of the appointment.
Minimum 3 years of full-time credentialed PK-12 Special Education teaching in the USA.
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and ability to mentor diverse students.
Proven ability to develop and sustain a scholarly research agenda.

Responsibilities

Teach six standard courses per academic year.
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
Engage in research and service activities, including accreditation and program reviews.
Participate in school and campus committees and maintain external partnerships.
