Assistant Professor - Physics (Tenure-Track)
The City College of New York is pleased to announce a faculty search as part of the CUNY Martin S. Spergel Initiative supported by the Simons Foundation. The Department of Physics at The City College of New York (CCNY) of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, anticipated to begin in Fall 2027. We seek candidates with expertise in computational condensed matter physics, broadly defined, with an emphasis on quantum materials.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, strongly correlated and topological quantum matter, two-dimensional and moiré materials, quantum magnetism, nonequilibrium and driven quantum systems, light-matter interactions in quantum materials, many-body quantum dynamics, and computational approaches to quantum materials.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, internationally recognized, and externally funded theoretical research program. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research can foster close interactions between theory and experiment and create new opportunities for collaboration with existing experimental programs at CCNY in quantum materials, condensed matter physics, photonics, and quantum optics.
The successful candidate will complement and enhance existing departmental strengths and contribute to growing efforts in quantum science and technology at CCNY and across CUNY. Opportunities exist for broader collaborations with theoretical and experimental groups at the CUNY Graduate Center, the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, and other research institutions in the New York metropolitan area. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in physics, as well as mentoring and advising students at all levels.
CCNY is the flagship campus of CUNY, a public university system in New York City. The Department of Physics has internationally recognized research programs spanning condensed matter physics, photonics, particle physics, and biophysics. The College fosters interdisciplinary research and collaboration across CCNY, multiple CUNY campuses, and leading research institutions in the New York metropolitan area.
Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required.
Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarly achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
