Ball State University seeks an individual with a commitment to collaborative discourse, interdisciplinary inquiry, and entrepreneurial learning practices as a musical theatre voice teacher within a Nationally recognized BFA program in musical theatre. The successful candidate will be an accomplished artist and educator who will play an active role in the crafting of curriculum, recruitment of students, and building connections within the discipline that will further enhance the opportunities presented to our students during and after their matriculation.

Ball State's BFA musical theatre option offers an innovative and demanding training curriculum consisting of rigorous and varied coursework, a strong foundation in voice training, and an emphasis on developing triple threats who also possess strong musicality, sight singing, and piano skills. Applicants should also be committed to inclusive pedagogies in their teaching, scholarship, and artistry.

Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with the salary for this opportunity beginning at $53,000 annually.

Duties and Responsibilities:
*Teaching voice students and affiliated master classes in a highly competitive BFA musical theatre curriculum - teaching load that may also include sight singing, basic musicianship, piano, all levels of singing actor courses, and ensemble singing, and other courses as needed;
* Serving as an accompanist/pianist for classes, productions, showcases, and other events connected to the musical theatre curriculum;
* Recruitment for the BFA musical theatre program;
* Mentorship and coaching of upper-level students in conjunction with showcases and professional auditions;
* Collaboration with colleagues on the vision, design, and management of the musical theatre program;
* Work as a musical director, director, coach, or actor in assigned departmental productions;
* A dedication and commitment to helping foster and cultivate overall student success;
* Creating an active and tenure-worthy professional profile in the area of musical theatre. This includes a balance of work in professional venues, scholarly activity, presentations at reputable conferences, and other related professional activities that benefit the candidate, University, Department, and students being served.
* Fulfilling service obligations, including assigned committee work at the Department, College, and University level, on a national, regional, and local level.
* Working in collaboration with theatre and dance faculty, staff, and students in facilitating the theatre and dance production program at Ball State University.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in voice, musical theatre, or related discipline or equivalent professional experience completed by date of employment.

  • Eight months (one academic year) of experience as a voice teacher within the area of musical theatre

  • Eight months (one academic year) of teaching experience at the university/college level.

Authorization to work in the USCandidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in theatre or related discipline completed by date of employment.

  • Twenty-four months (three academic years) of teaching experience at the university/college level.

  • Ability to serve as a pianist for class and/or a musical director within production work when needed.

  • Experience or related expertise that would allow the candidate to teach one or more of the following additional musical theatre courses: sight singing, basic musicianship, introductory acting and singing actor courses, ensemble singing.

  • The potential to serve the musical theatre area in a leadership position.

  • Substantial experience as an artist, performer, musical director, or director on Broadway or in major Regional Theatre venues.

  • Connections and recognitions within the professional musical theatre industry
