The Department of Linguistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Linguistics beginning July 1, 2027. Area of specialization: syntax/semantics and language documentation.

The ideal candidate has a strong research program in syntax, semantics, or the syntax/semantics interface, with experience in language documentation and/or linguistic fieldwork to advise student theses.

Qualifications

• PhD in Linguistics or closely related field; evidence of teaching and research excellence.
• PhD must be obtained within 6 months of start.
• Strong research program in syntax, semantics, or syntax/semantics interface.
• Experience in language documentation and/or linguistic fieldwork.

Responsabilités

• Maintain an active program of research and publication.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (two per semester), primarily in syntax/semantics and field methods.
• Advise students at all levels.
• Provide service at departmental and University levels.
• Participate in professional activities in the field.
