Job summary

The University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Syntax, with an expected start date of July 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The selected candidate will pursue their own research agenda, collaborate with faculty in the Department of Linguistics and other areas of the Division of the Arts & Humanities and University, and teach in both the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

Qualifications

• Active research agenda resulting in publication in leading venues in their field.
• Ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels, and to mentor students.
• PhD in linguistics or a related field completed before the start date.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in syntax and related areas on the quarter system.
• Advise students at all levels and participate in department, college and university service.
• Develop and pursue an independent research program in syntax with collaboration across the department.
