The University of Akron invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach courses within the School of Nursing. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position located in Akron, Ohio.

The appointee will deliver courses in-person, maintain student communication and records, and participate in curriculum development and program improvement aligned with accreditation requirements.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing and an unrestricted Ohio RN license.
• Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience with in-person or online learning environments and instructional technologies.
• Knowledge of community health, nursing leadership, evidence-based practice, adult health issues or health promotion.
• Basic knowledge of a learning management system.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses in the School of Nursing in person or online per approved outcomes and policies.
• Deliver in-person courses and provide timely communication, instruction, feedback, and support to students.
• Monitor student progression and identify at-risk learners; maintain records of grades and attendance.
• Develop and update course content, activities, assessments, and asynchronous materials.
• Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation-related activities.
• Support RN‑BSN recruitment, retention, and progression; engage in committees and service.
• Maintain professional credentials and pursue ongoing teaching and learning growth.

The University of Akron, one of Ohio’s leading public institutions of higher learning, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach courses in the School of Nursing. This is a full-time 9-month non-tenure track position.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach assigned courses in the School of Nursing, in accordance with approved course outcomes, curriculum, and university policies.Deliver assigned in-person courses in an in-person learning environment in accordance with approved course outcomes, curriculum, and university policies.Provide clear and timely communication, instruction, feedback, and support to students.Monitor student participation and progress and communicate concerns regarding students who may be at risk for unsuccessful course completion.Maintain appropriate records of student grades, attendance/participation, and other required course documentation.Develop, revise, and maintain course content, learning activities, assignments, assessments, and asynchronous learning materials that support course, program, and institutional learning outcomes.Participate in curriculum development, course evaluation, and continuous improvement using current evidence, student outcomes, and faculty feedback.Support student recruitment, retention, progression, and successful completion of the RN-BSN program.Maintain regular faculty presence and engagement throughout assigned courses.Grade assignments, discussions, examinations, and other student work according to established course expectations and grading criteria.Participate in program, school, college and university-wide committees and service.Maintain professional credentials to support the program and seek out professional growth opportunities in current teaching and learning pedagogies related to the adult learner.Supporting University, College and School of Nursing goals to assure compliance with accreditation.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSTo be considered, the applicant must meet the following criteria:Master’s degree in nursingAn unrestricted registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio or current multi-state license.Must have a minimum of two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse.Knowledge and experience with in-person or online learning environments, including the use of instructional technologies and tools to develop engaging online learning materials.Knowledge in community health, nursing leadership, evidence-based practice, professional nursing practice, adult complex health issues, or health promotion and wellness.Basic knowledge and experience with a learning management system.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSDoctorate degree preferred (PhD, DNP).2 or more years of teaching experience with some online teaching experience.Skills in goal setting and team building.Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate course and program activities.Additional Position Information:Application Instructions: To apply for this position, you must complete the online application and attach a current curriculum vitae or resume, transcripts, a cover letter that addresses how your strengths and experience match the duties of the position and a list of three professional references to your profile.
